The last time I saw Tanya was in Huatulco, weeks after she had jumped ship. She rushed to port, out of her way, to meet us, and I thought she looked a bit out of the world with her long green skirt, such a thing to hike Mexico in!

I didn't know her well, I crewed with her for one brief month, but unlike so many other people who come and go through my life she made the distinct impression of one who doesn't just talk about changing the world, but actually does her part. She seemed too stubborn in her goals at times until one realised it was not some bohemian fashion that she followed, but an actual means to an end. A means to a better world. A drop in the ocean that does not only sink deep but ripples, ripples... I think she knew how much each drop matters.
The phrase is worn but I write it with full conviction: the world is poorer without Tanya.
